Recent Sewing Exploits

As always, I've been far too busy to blog. I started working again, on top of my school and apprenticeship I have very long days. I generally get to school around 7:30 (I go early to catch up on studying or work on my paintings) and then get home from work at 22:00. I'm going to try and write a couple posts over thanksgiving break though. First I'd like to share some of the sewing I've done in the last... 6 months or so.

This is the oldest dress. I actually made it to wear to the interview for my apprenticeship. I wanted to make something flattering and cute yet still professional.
I made this dress over the summer for school. The theme of this dress is "identity" so I basically made something that would fit well into my current lolita wardrobe. It looks a little dumb in this picture because I don't have a full co-ord on. But I wanted a simple picture of the dress to add to my portfolio.
This dress was also made for school. The theme is "The Trojan War" so I tried to make a dress that resembled armor.
This jacket is the most recent piece of mine. I made it for school in October The theme was prince charming so I made a princely jacket. I challenged myself to use yellow, which is a colour I usually avoid. I couldn't find the right texture of fabric in yellow though so I spent a week bleaching and dying this. There are also a bunch of details on the sleves that you can't really see in this picture.
Well that's all for today folks. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog!

Back to school shopping

I can't believe that I didn't post at all in September! I have some more stuff from the summer that I want to post, but for today let's focus on September. September was a really busy month for me though, school started again, I started my apprenticeship at a theatre, I went to Anime USA (it was really early this year), and halfway through the month I got fired from my job. I haven't really been looking for a new job though. I want to take some time off to focus on applying to colleges and then get back to working. If I had known I was about to lose my job I probably wouldn't have bought so much stuff. September events aside, this year I decided to honor the great american tradition of buying a lot of new clothes in late august/early september for school. Here's what I bought.
First the piece de resistance, a BTSSB skirt! This print was one of my dream prints and I'm super excited to own it. The fabric that it's made of is really gorgeous too, it's hard to describe, but it's a shiny satin on the back side, but on the printed part it's completely matte, the shiny part shows through enough for it to look bright and princessy but not look horrible in pictures. I bought this from a German lolita online and it came in perfect condition, however the girl failed to mention she was a smoker so it (and the cardigan I bought with it) came smelling like smoke. I don't care too much about the smell of smoke, but it would've been nice to know beforehand.
Let's play the game, "spot the brand name in the print!"
Cardigans! I bought a whole bunch for the fall season. They are all second hand but originally they were from H&M, American Eagle, Baby the Stars Shine Bright, and Hell Bunny, in that order.
 The BABY emblem <3

Tops! The pink cutsew is from DreamV and the white blouse is thrifted, but originally by Ralph Lauren. I own a lot of brand lolita, but this is my first time buying American designer brand stuff. It's really rare that you find it at goodwill too, so I couldn't let that chance pass.
The collar on the pink cutsew is just too cute!
I guess this category of clothing is "casual" or "other." The black and white striped things are leggings, and I've never actually worn them even though I've had them for more then a month. I'm a little embarrassed about it actually. I just have no idea how to coordinate leggings! I also bought a black hoodie and a pastel camisole to wear around the house. The last thing in this picture is my black oxfords which are already super worn out! I debated over whether or not to buy oxfords for a couple years, until I found them in a thrift store in August. I'm super glad I bought them though I wear them a lot! They’re from a super cheap store originally though (target I think) so they're already wearing out.
Accessories! The attack on titan box is full of bronze charms and it's also the only thing I bought at Anime USA this year. The nail polish is the latest thing I bought. I bought it to cheer myself up after losing my job. I could never wear nail polish at my old job and I missed it.
The attack on titan charms! The red velvet stuff is much darker in real life.
Bags! I needed a new school bag because the one from last year wasn't big enough to hold the HUGE sketchbook I need for art this year. The kuromi pouch was an impulse buy but it actually turned out to be really useful for carting around my art supplies.
Paper goods! The most important part of back to school shopping! I got some pastel notebooks for taking notes, a flower print letter set and hello kitty band aids. The kuromi pad was a free gift with some of the other purchases but the shape's a little odd so I haven't used it for anything.

Dream Sky Tights Review

As always, I have some catching up to do with my blog. I'm going to make a few review posts before posting an outfit dump from the entire summer season.

A few months ago Angelic Pretty re-released one of my all time favourite prints: Dream Sky! Unfortunately for me, I missed the reservation so I couldn't snag a JSK or OP, but I needed the print in my life so I bought the tights.

Overall: 4/5
Shipping and Packaging: 5/5 it came in a little accessory sized bag inside a sturdy envelope. I ordered from the SF store so shipping was really fast too!
Service and Communication: 5/5 I had no problems with communication and the store included a recipt (which shows you how pricey the tights were) with a little note and drawing on it!
Product: 3/5 The tights are fine, the print doesn't strech, crack, or distort in any way when worn, but to be honest I expected a little more for the price. The tights aren't as soft or thick as my Teja Jamila tights. In the picture below you can see how thin they are at the knee and toe areas, and the really visible side seam

Spring outfit dump

I decided that I had too many unposted outfits to post them one at a time so here are a bunch of outfits that I was wearing back in April/May.
Here's a picture of my shoes, since they got cut off in the main picture.

Outfit Rundown: Dress, thrift; Collar, forever21; Shoes, bodyline; Socks, sock dreams; hairbow, Innocent World; Necklace, thrift
Outfit Rundown: Skirt & hairbow, kidsyoyo; Blouse, thrift; Socks, sockdreams

This outfit's more of a casual gothic lolita style. I am really happy with how it turned out, and I'll probably wear it a lot when it gets cold again.
I got this T-shirt at a concert I went to the night before I wore this (if I look really tired in the above picture that's why) wearing a band shirt with lolita is something I previously thought was impossible, but I think it worked well.
Outfit Rundown: Hairbow, Innocent World; Collar: Forever 21; Cardigan, Target

I don't think I've posted pictures of this dress yet, but it's handmade by me. I'm really proud of it.

My blog is 2 today!

I almost totally forgot that this is my second year of blogging. I kind of stopped blogging for a while there for a couple reasons. The main one being blogger stopped letting me upload pictures, but since it IS letting me upload pictures right now I thought I'd share a recent-ish outfit.I remember feeling really cute while wearing this, I haven't felt that cute in a while.

Outfit Post: Sakura

This is the outfit I made with my sheer overdress, it's pretty simple and it makes the overdress kind of look like a chiffon OP. This outfit is really old, the sakura were still blooming when I wore it.

Outfit Post: Mild Intoxication

Fashion blogging is like the easiest thing ever but I am still too lazy to do it.  The nice thing about posting your outfits so long after you wear them is that you can look back at the pictures and fondly remember the fun things you did while wearing them!

The Experiance of Dorrian Grey

I may as well warn you that this is going to be a long post, which is why I waited for school to go on spring break to write it. So as I may have mentioned, I was working on costumes for the Portrait of Dorian Grey for a while. The Play was in production since November, but I didn't start working on it seriously until two weeks before the play because my Director didn't take costumes seriously or tell me what we needed until two weeks before the play. As you can guess I did not sleep very much for two weeks.
It has my name in it and everything!
You may notice it says assistant, why does it say assistant? I was not the  assistant, if anything I did more work than the other girl working on costumes. I am not mad though, because there are much bigger things to be mad about. Here is the other costume girl chilling backstage.
What a cutie! She was the one that got me on the production team of this play, and is actually one of my best friends in real life. As I said earlier though, I have bigger things to be mad about, the biggest is possibly this dress.
My director had me make this dress in one day and she didn't even give me the actress's measurements. That is an impossible task, but guess what, I did it  anyway. By some miracle it even fit the actress, it wasn't the most flattering dress ever, but it was ok. I even took the time to sew on pearls just for an extra touch. But the 20 minutes before the play opened she decided to change the dress. The director was always undermining the costumers decisions and she had no respect for the time and effort we put into this. I didn't go to school or sleep or even eat the day I made this dress. I am not going to get mad about this now though, because it is over.

In addition to buying costumes I also rented some from the district's costume shop, which is a thing we actually have for some reasons. They had an army of dress forms there, which was amazing, just look at all the different body types!
Some of  the costumes turned out nice in the end. Just look at these fine gentlemen.

I also did a decent amount of fooling around backstage. For example I made friends with Bridget, the props-girl.
I arty hard.... with prop smokes and alcohol. I also made really good friends with the girl doing makeup, she is a really lovely person. While the actors were practising she did my eye makeup, I wish I had the skills to do this by myself.

And that's what I did on my hiatus from blogging.
